How to survive the silly season.

Al right we know you have been training hard all year, eating well, not missing your training sessions trying to cut down alcohol and sugar and generally looking after yourself. But now its Christmas you have Xmas parties every week, Xmas drinks and various other get together before the big day. Then that is another massive day of eating and drinking and being merry. Well I want you to still be merry just without that rossie glow in the cheeks that only alcohol brings. Ok have one maybe two drinks but you don't want to throw a whole year of hard work down the drain in one foul swoop. So here are the rules to surviving the Xmas rush.

Firstly -Exercise Control - Ok like I said one is Ok maybe two but no more stop before tipsiness sets in because then there's no stopping you. The same goes for plum pudding, ice cream cake or whatever calories dense, sugar filled sweets are brought out at your Xmas lunch. So have a piece but only one for the day no matter how many events are on that day. The trick is to leave the room just before sweets are served. Grab some plates start washing up or at least filling the dishwasher. Your host will live you and hopefully by the time you return all the sweets will be gone or maybe they will save you one piece and your portion control is done for you. If its at your place even better you making less to clean up later.

This also works for lunch or dinner once you have had a normal portion of food ie as big as your fist then don't keep eating walk away and star cleaning up.

Keep up your exercise - Just because your on holidays don't stop exercising. Of course you don't have your normal routine and training schedule but don't let this turn you into a slob. You can run/walk anywhere all you need is your runners so pack them if your going away. Go in the morning while its cool and there are no distractions. Find a park thats 1,2, 3 or even better 4km away run there when you get there do some burpees, push ups, sit ups, planks, squats; lunges and dips all you need is a bench, and then run home simple hey?

Also if there are kids at your xmas lunched and dinners go and play with them if there your kids then even better quality time with the kids if not there parents will love you for playing baby sitter. Kids love to run and be thrown up in the air chased and played sports with. So this is a chance to burn off lunch or dinner and have some fun with the kids.

Don't lose your head. If you have a blow-out, lets face it when you have a blowout at either your work Xmas party or at Xmas lunch, whilst I don't condone this don't let it be the end of you and give up. Ok that was one bad meal or one bad day its done now you cant change it don't get down and say oh well I've ruined my diet now so I mights keep going. Stop and just get back on the good living horse asap and keep on riding.

The last trick is to eat before going out. Fill up on veggies at home before your xmas parties even Xmas lunch you we eat less there because you will be full quicker, you get some important nutrients in and you wont be starving your body waiting for the food to come out. We have all done that before - lets starve all morning or day until dinner or lunch so I can eat more then. We did this when we were kids we would never be that silly again would we? Now we know how starving slows metabolism and stores fat and eating every two hours is the way to go. So stick to this all Xmas small portions every two hours never be starving never be full, exercise and enjoy Christmas just not too much lol.
