How to beat the winter blues

How to beat the winter blues

Here we are at winter again and if your like most people your enthusiasium for exercise starts to wain as the days grow shorter and colder. But here is your survival guide to winter so that you wont come out the other end of winter looking like an overfeed bear.

1. Train in the middle of the day- Because its cool you can train in the middle of the day something you would be mad doing in summer.  This way you will also get some valuable vitamin D at the same time. This will also spike your mood up as sunlight is as essential as a good diet to being happy and healthy. If you work all day then train on the weekend.
2. Make appointments to train either with friends, a group or a trainer in the morning so that no matter how cold or dark it is out you have to get out of bed as you would be letting the team down if you sleep in.
3. Dress for winter- This is a great time of year to sport your new skins breathable comfortable gear that makes you want to train.
4. Set your own 12 week plan this includes both training and eating as you need both to get where you want to go. Also in 12 weeks it will be spring and you don't want to start then you will be 12 weeks late.
5. Do sports you would never or could never do in summer. For example did you ever notice that marathon season is always in winter worldwide that's because optimum marathon weather is between 5 to 15 degrees perfect winter temperature. Believe me you don't want to run 42 kms in summer So run a marathon or half marathon, do a triathlon or go skiing. Theres a winter sport for you. the training run these events will keep you out of mischief.
6. Cook a casserole- Winter is the best time for cooking as summer the house gets too hot but in winter it makes the house cosy. A casserole allows you to eat heaps of veggies in a yummy format so throw in heaps of veggies.
7. Stay healthy. Winter is the time most people get sick but if you eat well and live right it doesn't need to be. I haven't had a cold in years. Ok Casseroles take care of our vitamin and mineral needs also cook with ginger and garlic to ward of colds and flu's. Also olive leaf extract is a great way to stay out of the doctor's chair. Start taking it in may for best effects in May but even if you have a cold and start taking it it will lessen the severity of it.
