CALORIES

Calories how much are in certain foods. Today we look at cakes and buns

Hi all, I was talking to a client the other day about calories and realised there idea of how many calories are in certain foods was way off so I decided to rectify it by writing about the food types over the next few weeks that are grossly under rated, and this week it's cakes. Everyone knows there not great but I don't think people understand how calories dense they are. Lets start with individual cakes for example:
Apple Pie 150g - 420 Calories
Baklava 50g - 410 Calories - just 50 grams wow!
Large custard filled iced Donut 180 g- 630 Calories!
Chocolate Eclair 160g - 900 calories
Vanilla slice 270g - 550 calories
Cupcake 110 g - 350 calories
Scone 110g - 335 Calories
Hedgehog slice 135 g - 700 Calories
Croissant Chocolate filled 125g - 470 Calories
Boston Bun 75g - 300 Calories
Lamington 75g -260 Calories

Now these are just small individual cakes that can be eaten in one or two bites. So imagine if you have a calorie allowance of 1500 per day  -( an average women) and you eat a hedgehog slice at 700 calories you are almost half  way to your daily allowance in one hit.  Then there is muffins. There is a reason the fat around the belly is called a muffin top do you know a 200g muffin is 560 Calories.
Here are some cakes
Baked Cheesecake 115g - 405 Calories
Boston mud cake 175g - 685 Calories
Lemon Meringue pie 140g 350 Calories
Banana cake 124g - 400 Calories
Black Forest cake 125g - 410 Calories
Carrot cake 100g - 375 Calories
Chocolate mud cake 150g- 620  Calories
Fruit cake 100g - 360 Calories
Tiramisu 100g - 330 Calories

There are a few surprises like Tiramisu being less than a fruit, banana or carrot cake. Don't left the sound of fruit or veg in a cake's name fool you it's still high in calories. So next time your walking by the got bread shop just think I will have to run for an hour and a half to burn anything off there. So just walk on by.
