The 5 Dietary Principles
Hi again time for part three of our dietary rules. First it was the importance of protein, then last week about portion control today its the timing of meals.
Too many people either miss meals or have too long breaks in between meals. For example breakfast is missed alot. This is the most important meal of the day and should never be missed. The other problem is the spacing of meals. Meaning people would have a 5 or 6 hour break between meals. The problem with this is the body goes into starvation mode.

Whilst we are civilised now and have been for a long time or digestive system is still living in the caveman days when we would hunt for a lot of our food and would have to go without for for extended periods when pickings were slim. In these times of drought the body would slow down the metabolic rate and store fat to survive the dark winter without much food. We are survival machines our bodies are fantastic at surviving on little or no food. We have all seen the disaster victim comes out after 3 or 4 days or more without food and then live to tell the story. This is a great attribute for surviving these disasters but not great for today's times of fast food, supermarkets and food stores on every corner.
In Australia or anywhere of the developed world we dont eat for survival we eat for pleasure. So we have no need to store fat or food so we need to give the body what it wants 6 or 7 small meals a day. That means eating every two or three hours. My day is like this 1st breaky 4.30-5am
2nd breaky 7.30am
Morning tea 9.30am
Lunch 12
Lunch 2.30
Afternoon tea 4.30pm
Dinner 7-7.30pm
Now that seems like alot of eating for a day but its just small meals all day apart from 1st breakfast to get the day rolling. This way the body is constantly digesting food all day the metabolism is high all day and there is no need or time to store fat.
So eat early, eat often, just eat small for a small tummy. See you next week.
