SMOKING AND WEIGHT LOSS THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE
I hear many people talk of the so called reason they dont stop smoking is because they fear they will stack on weight if they stop smoking. I always thought what a cope out they just want an excuse to keep on smoking. But i thought lets get to the bottom of this.
I have never smoked so i cant say from my own experience but i find it hard to believe that people would rather continue something that we know kills you than chance a little weight gain. Not even im that vein and im pretty vein. I will run an extra 5kms if i have had a big meal the night before in an attempt to burn it off. But to cut your life short to stay trim seams extreme at the very least.
The amusing thing to me is that they dont mind smelling, having yellow teeth, discoloured fingers, terrible breath and look about 20 years older as long as they are not chubby. These are just the things we can see there is a whole lot of damage going on inside the body where it really matters every time you light up.
Ok OK we all know smoking effects on the body and im not here to preach although i got a bit carried away there. But if you do want to know more hear is a link- www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Smoking_effects_on_your_body
Lets get down to what we said the article was about - smoking and weight loss. Ok i admit the figure are that most people 75% of people put on weight after stopping smoking but considering that 65% of us are Obese or overweight then thats about average. The reasons given are the metabolic rise of smoking, the suppression of appetite and the calorie burning effects of smoking.
Firstly the metabolic rise is minimal the same as if you went for a short 5 minute walk so instead of smoking if you went for a walk every time then you would not only get the metabolic rise but you would also be getting fit at the same time. So there's that one put to bed.
The suppression of appetite is also minimal and can be offset by the fact that smoking not only destroys your taste buds it also makes you crave sweeter or more salter foods so that argument is blown away. How many times do you see a smoking drinking some sugary drink or food while they are getting cancer oh i mean smoking.
Thirdly the calorie burning effects of smoking - considering these effects are causing your system to be in a stressed out state 24 hours a day if you smoke more than three a day. This stressed out state is causing the hormone cortisol to be secreted which as a side effect increases belly fat. for more info on stress and weight gain read my article on coffee link www.brisbanept.blogspot.com.au/search?updated-max=2010-09-20T12:10:00%2B10:00&max-results=5&start=15&by-date=false
Also you could burn those calories going for a walk so as above when you want to have a smoke go for a walk and you will get the same metabolic rise, same calories give or take but you will be a whole lot healthier and fitter and look much better if choose not to smoke.
Come on guys its 2013 time for a change put down the cigarette, doughnut, coke, chocolate bar and get out and get active.
Lets make Australia the fittest country in the world not the fattest and most lazy. Its a new year time for a new you lets go and get it.
